(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: ~~-~OOn-ns~
INSPECTION DATE: 'i/9/ns INSPECTOR S INITIALS: .~.AI'
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the 4-year monitoring program conducted by the Division of
Minerals and Geology. Present at the inspection were Kate Pickford and Harry Posey, DMG, and Tom
Smith and Telly LaBus, Rocky Mountain Materials and Asphalt, Inc. Weather at the time of the inspection
was clear, calm, and approximately 60 degrees.
2. A sign is posted at the entrance to the site, the boundaries, however, are not marked. Although the
permit area lies along the top of the ridge, to the bottom of the gravel deposit, the natural features of
the area do not adequately depict the permit boundaries (See problem 1, Page 3 of this report). The
site currently consists of a single excavated area and an area to the west used to stockpile material.
Mr. Smith stated that the material acquired from the site is not suitable for use in asphalt or concrete.
Some material is removed from the site annually, however, for use as road base.
3. This site is permitted for 193.28 acres, with a maximum disturbance of 15 acres. It appears that the
operation is currently below its maximum allowance for disturbed acreage. The topsoil stockpile is
located on the east side of the excavated area. The topsoil stockpile is currently devoid of vegetation,
and Mr. Smith was advised as to the Rules and Regulations regarding seeding of stockpiled topsoil (See
problem 2, Page 3of this report).
4. There was concern during the inspection, that the excavated area was within 200 feet of a gas well
located in the permit area. Mr. Smith indicated that there is an agreement with the well owner that the
area where the well is located will be mined through and the well ultimately lowered. A damage
agreement between the operator and the well owner was located in the permit application, therefore
there is not problem related to the well.
5. The current bond amount of $32,400 appears to be adequate for reclamation of the site. A partial
bond calculation, however, will be conducted in order to confirm that the amount is adequate.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Tom Smith
OPERATOR: Rocky~Aauntain Materials & Asphalt.
