Bos 591 <br />Somerset, Colorado 81434 <br />Attention: Mr. Henry Barbe <br />Subject: Density tests for <br />The Refuse Pile at the <br />West Elk Mine near <br />Somerset, Colorado. <br />Mr. Barbe; <br />PN: M95030MT <br />This letter is to document our November 13, 1995 telephone <br />conversation in response to requests outlined by the Division of <br />Minerals and Geology letter dated November 2, 1995 by Ms. Christine <br />Johnston. <br />The letter requested that future tests performed for relative <br />compaction of the refuse pile material include gradation <br />information of the material tested for moisture content-dry density <br />relationship, ASTM Test Method D698-78. The gradation data that <br />will be included will be the portion of material smaller than one <br />fourth (1/4) inch, the portion of material one fourth (1/4) inch to <br />three fourths (3/4) inch, the portion of the material three fourths <br />(3/4) inch to three (3) inch and the portion of the material larger <br />than three (3) inch. This information is usually generated during <br />the performance of the laboratory moisture content-dry density <br />relationship test to help determine which sub-method of the test <br />P. O.
