(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1987-092
INSPECTION DATE 08/31/06
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the B&G Stone quarry conducted by Erica Crosby of the Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. No operator was present during the inspection.
Weather conditions on site were clear and warm. Ground conditions were dry.
The B & G Stone site is located approximately 7 miles north of Lyons in Larimer County,
Colorado. In 2003 the permit was amended to add 4.9 acres for a total of 9.9 acres. The
Division currently holds a reclamation bond in the amount of $11,170.00.
Mining is taking place in two distinct areas defined for the purposes of this inspection
report as the lower and upper pits. The lower pit was not being mined during the inspection
but consists of a small pit that has recently been mined. An excavator is located on site,
and it appears that rock has recently been removed. The depth of the pit is approximately
15-20 feet. Small piles of rock surround the pit that will eventually be used to reclaim the
area.
The upper pit is commonly shared with the Buster Quarries (Permit No. M-1981-107). Mining
was actively taking place in the pit. Men with hand tools were removing rock on the south
end of the pit and storing the material on pallets. Permit boundary markers could not be
identified that depicted the B&G Stone Pit from the Buster Pit. The operator will need to
install permit markers that adequately delineate the boundary area. See page 3 for
compliance due dates.
A small oil/petroleum spill was noted on the road at the entrance to the upper pit. The
oil/petroleum spill is approximately 5 feet by 3 feet. The depth of the spill was unknown.
The operator will need to excavate the contaminated area and properly dispose of the material
by an approved method (such as send to an approved landfill, land farming, recycling, etc.).
The operator should contact the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment;
Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division for further information regarding the
management of petroleum contaminated soil. A link to guidelines can be found at:
http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/hm/pcsdoc.pdf.
