There were no mine personnel or mining activities at the site during this
inspection.
2. The site appears to exceed the two (2) acres which were permitted.
Operations, buildings, portal entries, ponds, waste rock dump and equipment
storage are all part of the mining operation. The inspectors estimate
disturbance and activities at approximately 4 to 5 acres. See Recommendation
No. 1 and No. 7.
3. Financial warranty on this site is $2,500.00 and needs to be increased.
See Recommendation No. 2.
4. The waste rock bench outslope is encroaching up the Snefels Creek
Channel. Further disposal of waste rock may possibly block creek flow. See
Recommendation No. 3.
5. Much trash and junk is on the site and needs to be properly disposed. The
permit does not have an adequate mine refuse disposal plan. See
Recommendation No. 4.
6. Drainage and runoff control on this site is poor. Diversion ditches could
be constructed to minimize runoff onto the disturbed area. This would improve
operating conditions during spring time by controlling sediment and minimizing
runoff onto the operating site. See Recommendation No. 5.
7. The lower mine portal (?) was discharging approximately 20-25 gpm. Flow
routing of this water is poor. However, mine discharge water does flow into a
small sediment pond. The crest and out slopes of this dam are eroding and in
need of minor grading. See Recommendation No. 6.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. A map of all mining related facilities should be submitted. Permit
boundaries should be located and total acreage determined.
2. Financial warranty needs to be reviewed. The Division believes a
$5,000.00 Financial Warranty needs to be submitted.
3. Further disposal of waste rock along the creeks should be discontinued.
Further expansion of the waste rock pile/bench needs to be located at a
suitable site within the permit boundary.
