I
have re-visited the files we have for these two Permits. As you have suggested, I have also
visited with Mr. Tony Bates of Umetco and Ms. Lynn Lewis with the BLM. I previously queried
Mr. Frank Barnett, formerly of Umetco.

~~
SEP 2 3 ~ t/
cr~"~O" ~retd orttce
Mlneral~ $ Cieoro9Y
Unfortunately, as you might suspect, I was not able to uncover a great deal of information that
sheds light on outstanding questions that we have regarding specific mine sites and disturbances.
Here aze summaries of the latest file checks and conversations:
1. File Check.
I have attached copies of documents I located in our files - I suspect you already have
these, but I have included them as they may help sort out the picture.
July 22, 1986 Taminco letter to Umetco: This letter states that mine activity following
issuance of Monogram Mines Permit (M-1978-222) was limited to the Great Hesper
pit. This certainly suggests that none of the other sites included under the Monogram
Permit were disturbed during the 1978 - 1986 period.
The Annual Reports I have located for the Monogram Mines Permit (M-1978-222)
following the transfer of the Permit back to Umetco all state that the Monogram Mines
remained on standby status. Therefore, there may have never been any mining activity
on any of the Monogram Mines, except the Great Hesper Pit.
September 26, 1989 Umetco Technical Revision: Notice under the Monogram - Jo
Dandy Permit (M-1977-293) to drill a 5' vent vole in Section 12. As we have discussed,
this vent was associated with the Bull Durham Mine, and possibly the Last Chance
Permit held by Umetco. Clearly the vent hole is not proximal to the "Bobcat" Mine, as
indicated in past records, and the vent is on property that was not transferred to IUC. I
have no idea why this vent was included under the Monogram - Jo Dandy Permit, so
hopefully we can sort out where responsibility for this site properly resides.
January 3, 1991 Annual Report for the Monogram - Jo Dandy Permit (M-1977-293).
This Report filed by Umetco states that the 5' vent was in fact drilled at the Bull Durham
and that mining operations were conducted there. No note is made of activity at any
other mines included under the Monogram - Jo Dandy Permit, Subsequent Annual
