III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
PD3 is in good condition and stable. The culvert beneath the County Road that returns flow from
PD3 back to the south side of the road above Pond F is nearly half full of sediment. There is also
a significant amount of silt build up below the outfall of this culvert. Please clean the discharge
end of this culvert and the outfall below the culvert to ensure that the culvert and ditch function
properly.
The upper portion of PD4 is stable. Several rock check dams have been installed in PD4 below
the culvert that crosses the Light Use Road. There is significant erosion in PD4 below the
culvert crossing that should be repaired. A gully up to 4 feet deep has formed below the last rock
check dam. Additional rock has been stockpiled on the west side of the road by the culvert
crossing. Please repair the erosion that has occurred in the PD4 drainage. The DMG
recommends utilizing the additional rock for armoring the PD4 ditch.
Three other areas of the site were noted where rill formation has occurred. One location is to the
northwest of Pond D below the permanent road where a couple of rills have formed on the slope
above and to the northwest of the pond. Another location is west of Pond D across the
permanent road where rills and gullies have been repaired and reseeded in the past. A third
location is uphill and north of Pond A. The rills do not appeaz to be a significant erosion
problem at this time, however, if the rills deepen or impact successful revegetation then the rills
should be regraded or otherwise stabilized.
Reve elation
Over all the site appeazs to be stable and in good condition. Vegetation is healthy and well
established. Blue Flax is abundant in many areas particularly in the western portions of the site.
Some Canada thistle was noted in several locations including north of Pond A, along the former
two-track road leading to Ponds A and B, on the south side of Pond B, and in portions of ditches
PD2 and PD4. Please continue to control the growth of weeds throughout the mine site.
Loadout
The entrance gate to the Loadout was closed and locked. There was no activity at the site and the
site was secure. The site is fairly well vegetated but appeared very dry. The Loadout pond was
retaining water but not discharging.
