These provide
adequate sediment control for the small disturbed areas. These
areas should be topsoiled and planted as soon as possible.
No water monitoring is presently occurring on the site. No Notices
of Violation were written because no mine water or runoff from
disturbed areas is being discharged. Upon completion of the drain-
age system and pond, water must be monitored in compliance with the
NPDES permit during periods of discharge. These records should be
available at the mine.
717.20 Topsoil Handling and Revegetation
The operator is required by the state to replace topsoil lost during
construction of the portal bench. This topsoil will be purchased
and stockpiled on a turnout on the mine access road. Topsoil from
construction of drainage system features will also be added to this
stockpile. Dave Asher raised the question of using soils which
collect in the large settling pouf for reclamation. It is suggested
that laboratory soil analysis and field tests be conducted with this
material to determine its adequacy for revegetation.
No revegetation has begun at the present time. The major structures
that need. revegetation are the fill slopes below the roads and por-
tals. Small areas in the valley bottom next to the mine road where
straw dikes have been placed should be topsoiled and reseeded as
described in 717.20(b).
A
/ ~~
f '//
d GARY FRITZ /~
RECLAMATION SPECIALIST
-3-
