Recent hydrologic monitoring data were checked for compliance with the
monitoring requirements in Exhibit 14, Table A of the permit application.
All monitoring requirements appear to have been met.
Processing Waste
There was no activity on the refuse pile. The top of the pile was dry.
Most of the refuse on top of the pile has been graded out. The east face
of the pile appeared stable and there was no significant gullying of the
slope that has been topsoiled. The ditch at the base of the pile was in
good shape.
Support Facilities
No problems were found in the boneyard area, explosives magazine, or the
belt-outback area.
Progress on recently approved projects:
Northern Mining District Vent Shaft (TR-39) - A contractor crew
was installing the concrete liner in the borehole. No problems
were found at the site.
Yampa Valley Electric Capacitor Bank (MR-174) - A work crew was
installing electrial equipment.
Subsidence
The subsided section of County Road 33 was in good shape.
A recently undermined portion of Fish Creek was examined for subsidence
effects. The creek's flow is less than normal due to a dry spring. The
stream is flowing within its channel. An apparent sag pond has formed at
one location in an old meander scar next to the stream. The ponding
covers less than one acre and is shallower than the current few feet of
water flowing in Fish Creek. The ponding probably developed from water
seeping through alluvium, rather than water overtopping Fish Creek's
banks. No problems were evident anywhere in the undermined portion of the
stream. Plans for DMG to take aerial photos of the undermined creek later
in May were discussed with the operator.
Excess Spoil and Development Waste
Several piles of cuttings have been placed south of the old pit as
approved in MR-176. Plans for final grading of the area were discussed.
5
