~~ 22pcF a3 ~~d~
Backfilling and Grading: -The reclaimed east portal area was observed from the
road. The area appeared to be stable and no erosional problems were noted.
-The pad and surrounding disturbed area for return shaft 1 has been regraded. The
area appears to conform to the existing topography. Scott indicated that seeding
would be performed this fall.
Processing Waste: -Refuse Pile RP-2/3/4 was not being actively worked at the time of
the inspection. All of the refuse that has been placed on the pile has been spread.
Most of the pile has been compacted but there still are a few spots that need to be
compacted. There was no water pooling on the top of the pile and there did not
appear to be any springs or seeps coming from the pile. All of the gullying on the
east and north sides of the pile has been repaired. The material from the cleaning of
pond 2/3 that was placed on the top of the pile has been spread and compacted.
- As stated in the last inspection report, all of the refuse from the temporary stockpile
has been spread and compacted on Refuse Pile RP-5a. There were approximately
25 small piles of refuse on the pile (drying) that needed to be spread and
compacted. There was some fugitive dust from the haul trucks but the operator was
in the process of watering the pile to fix the problem. The pile appeared to be stable
at the time of the inspection. There was no water pooling on the top of the pile and
there did not appear to be any springs or seeps coming from the pile. No problems
were noted on the pile.
Support Facilities: -Return shafts 1 and 2 have been sealed due to a possible mine
fire in the old workings. The metal casings have been cut off but the concrete caps
have not yet been poured. Scott Wanstedt of BME indicated that this work would
probably be done next spring or summer.
-The pad and area around return shaft 3 was well maintained and in good
condition. No erosional problems were noted.
-The B-vent shaft area was also well maintained and in good condition. No erosional
problems were noted at the site.
-The Halandras landfill area was well maintained and stable. No erosional problems
were noted.
Topsoil: All of the topsoil stockpiles were properly marked. All of the piles were well
vegetated and there did not appear to be any erosional problems on any of the
piles.
Fish and Wildlife: A small herd of antelope was seen at the Halandras landfill.
Air Resource Protection: As stated above, there was some fugitive dust at refuse Pile
RP-5a, however, the operator was actively watering the area to control/eliminate the
problem.
