~drologic Balance
Four ponds remain at this time at the site and the loadout. All ponds were effectively dry and
appeared functional and in good condition. No evidence of any recent runoff or pond
discharge was noted.
Revegetation
The growing season is rapidly approaching and end for the year. However, a hard freeze
has not yet occurred. Revegetation at the reclaimed coal loadout appears excellent given
abundant precipitation during the late summer Many warm season grasses are nearly
waist-high in places and annual weeds, although present, are not the dominant plant species
(photo below).
Grasses and forbs at the main reclaimed facility and portal area are becoming well
established. A search for new plants in the treated Russian knapweed patch resulted in no
confirmed observations This area should be inspected in the spring and fall of each year to
ensure eradicalion of this noxious weed
.. .- ~..
,n 1
14t~ ~,~A~~ ~ ~ .t
~i~:~ ~ ~~iF~ ~ ~r ,.
y
1 ' ~' `1 ~ t .~.' i ! ~ C` t
,' ~`~ y
~ ~~ ~p
-x
Shrub transNlants continue to appear healthy t~a~>ui! bnisn s becoming established from
natural invasion and is currently flowering. The reclaimed area is beginning to blend well into
the surrounding terrain Two cow/calf pairs were grazing the mine site George Patterson
identified the brand to find the owner of these cattle for removal. It is likely that these cows
found a break in the fence that allowed them access to the desirable grasses and forbs on
the reclaimed area. (see next photo below)
