DOE Uranium Leases 14 <br /> Environmental Review <br /> • areas, pinyon juniper dominates except for the JD-9 water treatment site where pinyon juniper is <br /> to the south, and sagebrush shrubland is to the north. <br /> The coversoil stockpine is flat terrain at the base of the mesa. It is dominated by fourwing saltbush <br /> that, for the most part, did not look very robust and offers only minimal nesting substrate for <br /> various songbirds. <br /> 5.6.2 SM 18 Lease <br /> These sites were on hilly terrain rising above the San Miguel River valley. The southern sites are <br /> in particularly steep terrain,with a mix of rock outcrops and pinyon juniper habitat.Rock outcrops <br /> and cliff habitat are both present within the 1-mile buffer of all three sites. The portal was not <br /> searched for bats or bat sign, but suitable habitat is present. <br /> 5.6.3 SR 11 Lease <br /> • This site is disturbed with bareground and scattered rabbitbrush and weedyspecies.The perimeter <br /> p <br /> is surrounded by pinyon juniper habitat. Steep cliff habitat is 0.5 miles to the southeast. The site <br /> also includes a portal with potential bat habitat. <br /> 6.0 SUMMARY AND MITIGATION <br /> Potential impacts and possible mitigation measures for wildlife on the project area are listed in <br /> Table 6-1. <br /> Two sites are near or abutting habitat for the Gunnison's sage-grouse. Timing stipulations may be <br /> required. No raptor nests were observed, but if an active nest is found within the 1-mile buffer, <br /> timing stipulations may be required.
