The GLE/Morgenstern-Price and Spencer methods were used to
determine the minimum factors of safety. The presented factors of
safety are the minimum factors of safety calculated by either method.

Results indicate that the VLF Expansion slopes achieve the prescriptive requirements from DRMS
and Newmont and will remain stable under static and pseudostatic loading conditions.
5.2. Settlement Evaluation
The VLF Expansion increases the ore stack height on the existing VLF2 facility and partially fills
the interior basin of the VLF1 facility extending the footprint up the valley slope. Additionally, the
proposed Elkton pit, located under the VLF 2 Phase 4 Expansion, will be backfilled. Differential
settlement is expected to occur due to variable fill thickness and foundation transitions from
intact bedrock to pit backfill. The evaluation was completed to estimate long-term settlement at
critical sections and assess if the estimated strain, caused by settlement along the base of the
facility, could compromise the integrity of the LLDPE liner. In addition, settlement of the VLF1
slopes surrounding the proposed PSSA was evaluated to ensure potential settlement would not
reduce the storage areas capacity.
The settlement evaluation was completed using the two-dimensional (2D) finite element stress
analysis program RS2 v.11. Considering the nature of the backfill material and lack of
groundwater presence, time-rate consolidation is not expected and an elastic approach to
estimate deformations was completed.
