September 29,2025
Jerald Schnabel
Reference: Pikeview Quarry Technical Revision
• Stormwater basin—Northeast of the parking area is an existing stormwater basin that will be
preserved to continue to support wildlife habitat. This is another area on the site that provides a
water source that has been observed to be used as a watering hole for various species.
Additionally, the increased vegetation and trees in this area provides nesting opportunities.
Castle also requests removal of the 70% shrub survival threshold from the permit and reclamation plan.
Castle added the shrubs to provide enhanced reclamation. A 70% survival rate for this enhancement
exceeded the established rules and regulations. Although the shrubs survival rate does not meet the
current reclamation plan, the rest of the revegetation meets the Mineral Rules and Regulations for the
Extraction of Construction Materials Rule 3.1.10 for revegetation that supports a diverse and self-
regenerative ecosystem. During reclamation efforts and through site monitoring, there has been successful
revegetation growth that is sufficient to support the post-mining land uses of wildlife habitat and recreation.
This is demonstrated by the presence of native vegetation, insects, songbirds, and plants dropping seeds
for next season's growth. The results of the vegetation survey are provided as Attachment B to this TR.
