Table E-4 Reclamation Timetable
Description Time Required
Mining and Reclamation of Phase 1 20 years
Mining and Reclamation of Phase 2 3 years
Mining and Reclamation of Phase 3 20 years
Mining of Phase 4 3 years
Reclamation of Phase 4 3 months
Monitoring Reclamation Success 2 years
Total 48.25 years
4. Revegetation Plans (From NRCS)
During ground disturbance:
The expected 6-8" of topsoil will be stripped and stockpiled, only as required, and used as soon
as possible in the reclamation process. The stockpile will be broadcast seeded within 180 days
of establishment—seasonally dependent—with 16 lbs/acre of dryland alfalfa and 20 lbs/acre of
intermediate wheatgrass. The stockpile will be kept free of noxious weeds by using herbicides
until the pile is used for reclamation purposes. In the process of treating noxious weeds some of
the alfalfa may be killed as well, which is acceptable.
After earth disturbance operations the following steps are needed:
1. Side slopes will be equal to or flatter than 3.0H:1.0V.
2. Excess water from adjacent areas will not be allowed to flow onto the reclamation area
unless erosion control practices are implemented.
3. The length of slope will be properly controlled to prevent erosion.
4. Topsoil will be applied after shaping and tilled to a depth of 6" or more binding topsoil to
existing soil.
Seedbed Preparation:
All rocks, trash and other debris that will interfere with seeding will be removed and the ground
surface will be disked to a depth of 4-6". If the seedbed is prepared immediately following
construction, this operation can usually be omitted, except on fresh cut areas that have not
otherwise been disturbed. Fertilizer and mulch will be applied only as needed.
Fertilization:
Prior to planting, a soil analysis will be completed to determine if fertilizers are required. If
needed, fertilizer of not less than 40 lbs nitrogen and 40 lbs phosphorous will be applied prior to
seeding.
Yampa Valley Gravel Pit
August 2025 E-2 Lewicki& Associates
