Cripple Creek&Victor Gold Mine
Valley Leach Facility Expansions
Detailed Design for Permitting 1111
NewFields Project No.475.0106.064.
March 2024
The subgrade will be scarified, moisture conditioned and re-compacted prior to the
placement of structural fill.
The Structural Fill will be placed and compacted in accordance with the Technical Specifications.
4.4.2. Lined PSSA Basin
The VLF1 Phase 6 lined PSSA Basin is located upstream of the VLF1 Phase 6 PSSA Embankment
and is sized to hold 132.8 million gallons, which exceeds the minimum storage required as
determined from the water balance of 27 million gallons discussed below in Section 6.0.
The liner system for this PSSA will consist of the following: 12 inches of SLF, with a 1x10-6
centimeters per second (cm/s)or lower permeability, overlain by a 100-mil double sided textured
LLDPE geomembrane, overlain by three (3) feet of low volume solution collection fill (LVSCF),
overlain by a 100-mil double sided textured LLDPE geomembrane with a permeability of about
3.25 x 10-9 m/s (Lee, Shin, & Kim, 2018), overlain by two to five (2-5)feet of DCF. Within the three
feet of LVSCF will be a system of 4-inch diameter perforated corrugated polyethylene (CPe) pipes
to assist in directing flow of the low volume solution to the collection system manifold, as
described in Section 4.8.2 below.
•
4.4.3. High-Volume Solution Collection Recovery System
The High-Volume Solution Collection Recovery System (HVSCS) will direct process solution flows
in the VLF1 Phase 6 PSSA area and into the Solution Recovery System (SRS). The High-Volume
Solution Collection Recovery System, Solution Recovery System (HVSCS SRS) consists of four (4)
24-inch diameter carbon steel vertical riser pipes connected by a manifold fabricated using a 36-
inch diameter SDR21 HDPE pipe for more efficient recovery. The pipes will house vertical turbine
pumps to extract solution for further processing. The bottom 22 feet of the pipes will be slotted
and fitted with a louvered screen to allow solution to enter the manifold. The vertical riser pipes
will be extended vertically with the ore placement in the VLF1 Phase 6 PSSA. In order to reduce
friction during fill placement and during any settlement that may occur, the pipes shall be
wrapped in 100-mil smooth LLDPE geomembrane. Additionally, the pipes have been fitted with
compression joints which will dissipate any force transmitted to the pipes via friction drag during
settlement. This compression joint design has been previously used on other PSSA riser systems
at CC&V.
4.5. Lined Pad Expansion Area
The lined pad expansion will begin with lining upstream of the VLF1 Phase 6 PSSA and continue
into the PSSA.Within the VLF1 Phase 6 PSSA,a leak detection system and composite liner systems
will be installed below. The lining systems are described below.
1110
Page 13
