Request for Technical Revisions—JD-5 Mine
DRMS Permit M-1977-248
1.0 Introduction
The JD-5 Mine includes two vent shafts, ore bins, a head frame, and a hoist/compressor house.
All features are within the DRMS permit and DOE lease boundary.
2.0 Requested Revisions
The expanded JD-5 Mine Permit M-1977-248 describes the original plan for the work. Please
refer to the attached map for locations.
Ventilation Shaft Closure
o Highbury Resources is requesting approval to revise the vent plug closure to
allow for future ventilation use.
• Surface structures, including the fan and wood cribbing, will be removed.
• A surface cover will be installed over the shaft, similar to the other vent. It
shall consist of a 1" grating welded over the vent to allow for the mine
workings to passively ventilate. The cover will be made and anchored to
the foundation according to the specifications in the attached Figure Detail
1, Vent Grate Detail, which is adapted from Standard Drawing No. 6
Grated Adit Closure in the DRMS General Bid Specifications. If the
existing collar is insufficiently competent to mount the cover, then it will
be anchored in accordance with the specifications given in Standard
Drawing No. 4 Steel Grating Shaft Closure in the DRMS General Bid
Specifications.
• If a mine plan is submitted, the permanent conical concrete plug closure of
the vent shafts upon completion of mining would be included in the
reclamation plan for any proposed future activities. If it is decided that a
mine plan will not be submitted, the vent shafts will be reclaimed at that
time.
Surface Facilities
o Highbury Resources is requesting approval to revise the structure removal plan to
allow for the historic head frame and hoist/compressor house structures to remain
intact.
• The head frame and hoist/compressor house contribute to the site's
eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.
