reduction of 17.6± acres, with this 17.6-acre area being added into the Rocky Flat
Pit permit boundary.
The current final reclamation plan only includes the end use of non-critical
wildlife habitat. This amendment changes the final reclamation plan to include the
option for Developed Water Storage surrounded by rangeland. Reclamation of the
site into a reservoir is an appropriate end use as the geology (clay) is favorable
and water storage is essential to supplying water to businesses and residents year-
round. There are several other reservoirs in the Rocky Flats area currently,
including the Francis Smart Reservoir one mile south of the pit, Welton Reservoir 3
miles southeast, Standley Lake 5 miles southeast, and the Great Western Reservoir
3 miles northeast.
A market has been developed by Church Ranch for crushed Fox Hills
sandstone, sandstone cap rock, and miscellaneous rock byproducts (the sandstone
underlayment will be mined, processed, and sold). The current staging area for any
sandstone stockpiling or processing is to the west of the clay deposit.
A portion of the northeast area is currently used as a composting operation
that generates soil enhancement materials and landscaping soil mixes used by the
mineral owners. Vegetation materials and manure are delivered and composted to
make a soil enhancement product that is then sold to the public.
Finally, the McKay and Upper Church ditches previously meandered across
the Church and Rocky Flats Pits in a general southwest to northeast direction. By
agreement with the Ditch Company and landowner, the ditches have been relocated
and merged into a new, recently completed mining bypass ditch that now runs
along the west boundary of the Church Pit, then turn east along the north edge of
the Church Pit and the Rocky Flats Pit, then returns to their historical channels in
the northeast corner of the Rocky Flats Pit. This amendment finalizes the
completion of the ditch relocation.
Sincerely,
9/t..i t-L- 6 • I"7--------—-—---
Julie A. Welte, P.E.
V.P. Mining & Environmental
