EXHIBIT D MINING PLAN (cont)
Sandstone Mining
A market has developed recently for crushed Fox Hills
Sandstone, the miscellaneous rock in the clay, and cap rock on
the east side of the clay seam. The cap rock and miscellaneous
rock is currently drilled and blasted and then hauled to the rock
processing area west of the clay seam for processing and sales .
The Fox Hills sandstone will be mined from east to west starting
on the west edge of the clay mine area. When the permit limit is
reached the working face will be either cut to 3h: lv or a
backfilled 3h: lv slope will be placed against a near vertical
working face. The miscellaneous rock is mined where encountered
in the clay seams or on the east side of the pre-1981 pond.
Sand and Gravel
Mining for sand and gravel started in the southeast quadrant
of the current permit area where the current gravel plant site is
located. Currently, gravel mining continues mostly to the east of
the clay mining operations. This amendment will move the majority
of the gravel operation to the Rocky Flats Pit . However, future
sand and gravel mining is to occur within the amended Church Pit
boundary where the clay has yet to be mined.
The excavation for sand and gravel will be set back a
minimum 30 feet from the western and northern permit boundary
lines. As excavation proceeds, the outside perimeter slopes will
be mined near vertical and will be backfilled to 3 : 1 slope once
all mining ends . On the north and west sides, where the combined
Upper Church/McKay ditches are located, the top of the re-built
slope will be a minimum of 25 feet from the right-of-way line as
shown on Exhibit F - Reclamation Map. On the east and south
sides, the floor of the mine will be blended with the Rocky Flats
Pit (M-1987-113) leaving a combined reservoir area, or a visually
harmonious non-critical wildlife habitat.
Equipment for the sand and gravel mining may include, but is
not limited to, front end loaders, excavators, bulldozers,
graders, various trucks, crushers, grizzly, conveyors, stacker,
water trucks, scales, and scale house. A wash facility and a
portable concrete batch plant that utilize material from the
processing plant are located in the current permit area, but will
be located within the Rock Flats Pit permit boundary once the
amendment is completed.
Composting Operation
A portion of the northeast area is currently used as a
composting operation that generates soil enhancement materials
and landscaping soil mixes used by the mineral owners . Vegetation
materials and manure are delivered to the site and composted to
Lakewood Brick and Tile CO Church Pit— M-1979-045
Amendment 02 April 16, 2025
13
