r " • <br /> RECEIVED <br /> Kent and Brenda Lewis MAR 0 6 20Z5 <br /> 16476 Burghley Court <br /> Platteville, CO 80651 Cobs Division of Reclamation, <br /> kentlws@gmail.com Mining and Safety <br /> Bjtlewisl @gmail.com <br /> March 2,2025 <br /> Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety — NA 2 U c S-7 <br /> 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br /> Denver, CO 80203 <br /> Subject: Concerns Regarding Proposed Dredging Operation and Sand Plant by FRICO <br /> Dear Sir or Madam, <br /> We are writing to express our strong concerns regarding the proposed dredging operation <br /> and sand plant installation by the Farmers Reservoir and Irrigation Company(FRICO) near <br /> our community.As residents of Beebe Draw Farms,we, along with many of our neighbors, <br /> are deeply troubled by the potential environmental, health,and quality-of-life impacts this <br /> project will have on our homes and families. <br /> One of our primary concerns is the massive accumulation of sand that has already been <br /> stockpiled within one mile of our community.This sand pile not only obstructs our once- <br /> beautiful view of the lake but also creates hazardous conditions due to airborne dust and <br /> particulate matter.The strong winds in our area often carry fine sand particles, increasing <br /> the risk of respiratory problems, allergies, and other health complications for residents, <br /> especially children and elderly individuals. <br /> Additionally,the proposed sand plant's operation schedule of 24 hours a day, seven days a <br /> week raises significant concerns about noise pollution, light pollution, and increased traffic <br /> hazards.The continuous movement of heavy trucks in and out of the site at all hours would <br /> not only contribute to excessive noise but also pose safety risks for pedestrians and other <br /> drivers in the community.The potential deterioration of our local roads from constant truck <br /> traffic is another pressing concern that must be addressed. <br /> We understand that FRICO needs to continue its operation to have the ability to dredge and <br /> sell the sand for a profit. However,we strongly urge them to consider relocating the sand <br /> plant and piles of sand to another side of the take, away from our community and homes. <br /> This would help mitigate the negative impacts on our residents while still allowing the <br /> company to conduct its business. <br />
