Tri-County Gravel Pit, M77-205 Page 3 of 13
February 27, 2025
dewatering trenches constructed for dewatering the active mining area totals 1.6
acres. The total area of groundwater exposure therefore will be 20 acres, which is
less than the 33.4 acres allowed under the existing Augmentation Plan approved in
case no. 99CW216.
Under this SWSP, Applicant proposes to expand water use beyond the decreed uses
outlined in Case No. 99CW216 to allow water to be used for dust suppression purposes
and washing of mined material. This SWSP replaces depletions incurred from water
use for dust suppression and limited washing of mined material; the Applicant does
not anticipate any concrete batching occurring during this SWSP period.
Dewatering Operations
The mining operation will be continuously dewatered to the Reclaimed Pond at an
estimated 1,333.2 acre-feet per year, as shown in Tables 3 and 4. All water pumped
for dewatering purposes will be delivered to a recharge pond the location of which is
shown on attached Figure 3.
Discharge from dewatering operations will be handled under two possible scenarios.
For both scenarios, the discharge will be directed not directly to the North Fork of the
Gunnison River, as has been done under prior plans, but instead into Reclaimed Pond
for recharge of the alluvial aquifer. The effectiveness of the recharge will determine
the scenario that will be followed.
Under Scenario 1, the entire volume of the discharge will be accepted by the alluvial
aquifer as recharge and lagged back to the North Fork through the Reclaimed Pond.
However, if the volume of dewatering discharge exceeds the recharge capacity of the
alluvial aquifer at Reclaimed Pond, the dewatering discharge will be released through
