At a minimum, the plan MUST provide specific, detailed responses to the following list of safety
concerns that are likely to present themselves during the course of Project completion. When
developing the Project Safety Plan, please list specific types of equipment to be provided by
CONTRACTOR, including subcontractor(s), in order to address the safety concern, or
specifically state the actions to be taken by CONTRACTOR, including crew and subcontractor(s)
order to address the safety concern.
FIRE SAFETY- The site is remote and inaccessible. Fire safety is paramount durin_g the
course of the project. TWO, twenty(20) pound Class A fire extinguishers, or equivalent,
and a large round-pointed shovel with an overall length of at least forty-eight (48) inches
will be required to be on site at all times.
NOTE that the PROJECT MANAGER may suspend the work, either wholly or in part, for
such period or periods as he /she may deem necessary, due to unsafe work practices.
The job clock will NOT be stopped in such a circumstance.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this item will be reflected in a lump sum
quote under Item 2.0 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum quote will cover all costs for developing
and implementing the Project Safety Plan or SHEAP, including writing and revising the plan as
required, provision and maintenance of safety equipment, conduct of daily safety meetings and
all other items necessary and incidental to meeting the specifications of this item and of the
Project Safety Plan or SHEAP. Payment shall be made as this item is completed and approved
by the PROJECT MANAGER.
ITEM 3.0 STORMWATER AND EROSION CONTROL
Stormwater and erosion controls will be utilized to prevent erosion. Best Management Practices
(BMPs) shall be utilized to protect ephemeral drainages and to prevent offsite contamination.
BMPs, such as straw wattles, erosion control bales, and silt fence, shall be installed at the work
site to act as a secondary containment to collect offsite fluid flows or migration of sediment from
construction activities.
A variety of stormwater controls may be utilized, depending on the amount of minor access
improvements, site topography and the extent of excavation. All stormwater controls must be
directed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER prior to implementation. It is the
CONTRACTOR's responsibility to maintain all erosion control measures for the duration of the
project. The separate Bid Items for straw wattles, straw bales, and silt fence are described in
ITEMS 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3.
Project work will not be allowed during heavy precipitation events, due to the potential for flash-
flooding, erosion, and muddy conditions. The PROJECT MANAGER will notify the
CONTRACTOR when work will be delayed due to weather. Significant weather delays will not
be counted toward the time of completion clock.
Page 117
