• Gravel Rock Mulches:Utilized on steeper, more erosion-prone slopes, rock mulches and riprap consist of large stones
piled up to protect soil from rain impact and flow scouring.
5.5.2 Restoration and Reclamation
Post-mining landscape stabilization will focus on restoring the land's ecological balance and promoting long-term environ-
mental health through targeted soil, vegetation, and hydrological practices.
• Post-Mining Landscape Stabilization: Topsoil Replacement and Amelioration:The top layer of soil is critical for plant
growth.Where necessary, topsoil is replaced or enhanced with organic amendments to restore fertility and support
plant life. Additionally, mulch made from beetle-killed lodgepole pine will be employed to improve soil moisture
retention and temperature regulation. These practices are further emphasized during an on-site meeting with Colorado
Parks and Wildlife.
• Revegetation with Native Species: After mining,a critical step is reintroducing the tailored seed mix to reestablish
native plant cover and stabilize the soil, supporting both soil health and local biodiversity.
• Long-Term Management and Monitoring:Erosion Control Maintenance: Regular maintenance of vegetative cover
and other erosion control structures is essential to ensure their effectiveness over time. This may involve reseeding,
mulching,or repairs to geotextiles and barriers.
• Hydrological Restoration: Efforts are made to restore the natural water flow and drainage patterns disrupted by
mining activities. This includes the construction of swales, ditches, and retention basins to manage surface water and
reduce erosion.
5.5.2 Community and Regulatory Engagement:
Ongoing monitoring will ensure compliance with environmental restoration commitments and regulatory requirements,
involving regular site inspections and reporting to the Colorado Division of Reclamation,Mining, and Safety. Engaging
local communities in the reclamation process will align the project with local ecological and social expectations, enhancing
the acceptability and sustainability of restoration efforts.
5.6 Temporary Structures for Mining Operations
The West Side Placer Project anticipates the need for temporary industrial tents and other structures to support the ongo-
ing mining operations. These temporary structures will be constructed in full compliance with the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Act(MLRA) and its supporting regulations,as outlined by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board
(MLRB).
5.6.1 Permit Requirements and Compliance
Temporary structures, including industrial tents, will be erected in compliance with Rule 1.1 (affected land) and the
reclamation performance standards of Rule 3.Measures include compacted base installation, erosion mats, and drainage
systems. All temporary facilities are designed to meet the stability and safety requirements of Rule 4.6,ensuring minimal
9
HARDROCK/METAL MINING REGULAR(112)APPLICATION Au Pt Industries LLC I PO Box 1424-Edwards,Colorado 81632 1970 306 1 784
