M-2023-043
Seeley Reservoir Stockpiles
Exhibit H— Wildlife Information
The Seeley Lake Reclamation site is located just north of the City of Greeley and is adjacent to
several residential subdivisions, oil and gas sites, and agricultural fields. Based on these factors,
it is assumed that wildlife habitat fragmentation has already occurred.
On March 28, 2024,AGPROfessionals(AGPRO) staff contacted the Colorado Parks and
Wildlife(CPW)Northeast Region field office to request a wildlife comment from the Area
Wildlife Officer. CPW does not provide wildlife comments unless requested by the county. Weld
County is not requiring a land use process for the DRMS mine application as they have deemed
the maintenance of the reservoir to not be mining and are not requiring a Land Use Permit.
Therefore,AGPRO was unable to initiate a review from CPW.
Colorado State University's Colorado Conservation Data Explorer(CODEX)was used to obtain
information for potential impacts to threatened, endangered, and special concern species and
their habitats. Based on the attached CODEX report, the affected land is within the seasonal and
general range of a few non-endangered species.
The site is considered part of the bald eagle ranges for CPW nest, CPW roost sites, and CPW
Winter Concentration Area.AGPROfessionals staff conducted a site inspection on March 27,
2024.At that time there were no observed bald eagle nests within 5,000 feet of the site.
The proposed operation is not expected to have a significant effect on the existing wildlife in the
area. Intensive uses have been present on the site and on neighboring parcels historically, and
current land use plans for the area indicate this trend will continue for the foreseeable future. The
capacity of the immediate area to support foraging, migration patterns, and a pre-settlement type
of ecology is extremely limited. The proposed operation is generally consistent with levels of
current activities, such as oil and gas production sites, agricultural crop land, residential
neighborhoods, and new residential building sites.
