Kattenburg Pit SWSP
September 26, 2024
objections to your use of the proposed well. Well permit no. 88169-F was issued for
this pit, and expired on June 8, 2024 since groundwater was not exposed in the pit
prior to expiration of the permit. A well permit application, receipt no. 10037608,
has been submitted.
3. Well permit no. 88170-F has been issued to construct a well, and will expire on June
8, 2025, unless the well is constructed and the pump installed prior to expiration of
the permit. The permit allows the use of the groundwater from the well for product
moisture loss (washing mined material) and dust control and at maximum pumping
rate of 25 gpm. The average annual amount of groundwater to be appropriated shall
not exceed 3.71 acre-feet. Actual depletions cannot exceed these amounts and are
limited to those specifically approved through this SWSP. This well should not
operate pursuant to this SWSP and 37-90-137(11) unless groundwater is exposed.
4. The Applicant must replace all out-of-priority depletions from operation under this
SWSP, including those lagged depletions that occur to the stream system after the
expiration of this SWSP. If the intent is to obtain a short term lease for such future
replacement water an executed lease for depletions that extend beyond the SWSP
approval period is not required, however the Applicant must demonstrate that there
is reasonable likelihood that such a lease could be obtained.
5. The total surface area of the groundwater exposed at the Kattenburg Pit site must
not exceed 0.1 acre, which results in a maximum evaporative annual loss of 0.21
acre-feet.
6. The annual water used for dust control at the Kattenburg Pit site shall not exceed
1.52 acre-feet, the total product mined at the Kattenburg Pit site shall not exceed
150,000 tons per year (which results in 2.21 acre-feet of water lost with the mined
aggregate).
7. Total consumption at the Kattenburg Pit site must not exceed these aforementioned
