Wild Horse Reservoir Project West Test Quarry DRMS 111 Application
Wild Horse Reservoir Project
The City of Aurora ("Applicant") proposes to develop approximately 93,000 acre-feet (AF) of active water storage
capacity for Aurora Water at the Wild Horse Reservoir site, located in Park County, Colorado, near Hartsel and
about six miles west of Spinney Reservoir. Aurora Water's existing water rights from the Arkansas and Colorado
Rivers would be the source of water. No new rights or decrees are being pursued for this project. The reservoir
would be 'off-channel,' meaning no river or stream would flow into or out of the reservoir.
This application is to request approval to perform test quarrying at the proposed Reservoir site in the summer/fall
of 2024.
Materials needed to construct the Wild Horse Reservoir Project would be developed on site to the extent
practicable. Materials required for the reservoir construction would include: fine and coarse aggregates required
for concrete; sand for filters; rock for rockfill dam construction, riprap, road base; and materials for dam core and
shells.
Test quarrying is planned to the west of the reservoir. This field investigation would evaluate the potential for
developing rock quarries at the Project Site, including estimating the material volume and the quality of material
available.
TETRA TECH May 2024 1
