fertilization done following seeding should be done using a method that does not cause large
scale disturbance of the surface. If needed, fertilizer mixtures will be based upon soil tests made
on samples taken from re-soiled areas prior to seeding. Mulch may be applied if desired, but only
if the mulch is very strongly crimped into the soil to prevent high winds from blowing it away
and providing little benefit. If mulch is used, certified weed-less straw mulch at a rate
of 2,000 pounds per acre should be applied.
Future revegetated areas will only need a temporary, fast growing grass mix to stabilize soils.
Therefore, the same seed mix that has previously been used to stabilize stockpiles shall be
expanded and used in all other revegetation areas. The new seed mixture for the proposed permit
area is listed below.
Reclamation Grass Seed Mixture
Rate
Grass Species
(lbs PLS/acre)
Intermediate Wheatgrass 5.0
Blue Grama 1.0
Triticale 1.25
Rates are for drill and broadcast seeding.
Overall, the current Larimer County Noxious Weed Management Plan shall be applied if a
significant invasion of noxious weeds occurs after seeding or other surface stabilization. The
weeds will be mowed before they can go to seed and mowed periodically for additional control
as needed. Mechanical control will be used as a first priority. Chemical methods will only be
used if no other alternative produces acceptable results. List A species must be managed for
eradication with the goal of elimination from the state of Colorado. List B species must be
managed for eradication outside of the designated county containment boundary and associated
buffer zone. Inside the containment boundary, a List B species must be suppressed and stopped
from spreading onto adjacent property. List C species are recommended for management, but
management is not required by law and is left to the local governing entity's discretion.
Periodic inspection for noxious weeds, at least once a year early in the season, will be done. The
weed inspection will search for not only the expected species but also any new List A or B
species introductions. It is possible that non-noxious and List C species will also be found.
Non-noxious weeds, which are often native invaders, do not need to be controlled, but if the
population of a List C species is controllable then it will be included in the control program. The
current complete list of noxious weed species and local management plans is available from the
Larimer County Department of Natural Resources.
Ttmnath Connell Pit
DRMS 112 Permit Amendment Application Page 14
