This rate of application is due to the extreme conditions on the pit. <br /> Cover Crop or Mulch(v) <br /> No mulch or a cover crop will be used. <br /> Forage Kochia and Fourwing Saltbush Density(vi) <br /> One native shrub, fourwing saltbush (Atriplex canescens) and an introduced semi-shrub <br /> that can be evergreen, forage kochia (Bassia prostrata), will be seeded. Under ideal <br /> conditions and excellent germination, one could expect 400 plants of each species per <br /> acre or more with the suggested seeding rate. Given that ideal conditions are relatively <br /> rare in the general sense, 200 of both species combined per acre, is most likely. <br /> The fourwing saltbush seed shall be broadcast and pressed into the soil with the <br /> selected grasses and forbs. As previously stated, forage kochia should not be pressed <br /> into the soil. Hence, after all other seeding and pressing of the overall seed mix into the <br /> soil is done, the forage kochia is to be broadcast only. Timing is critical with forage <br /> kochia, with late fall to late winter the best period (late November- late February). It is <br /> acceptable to broadcast on upwards of 6 inches of snow or frozen ground. <br /> Infrastructure Remaining(d) <br /> The existing roads will remain. There are no buildings on site. Within the boundary of <br /> the pit,there are no ponds, streams, or other water bodies. <br /> Miscellaneous Unaddressed- Rock Dumps (e) <br /> 1. There will be no waste rock dumps as all mined rock is usable. <br /> 2. No underground mine openings. <br /> 3. No ditches. <br /> 4. No sediment control facilities beyond measures like ORDs. <br /> 5. No buildings. <br /> Any waterways that were constructed and one rock dam features, will remain as erosion <br /> control. As previously stated the existing roads will remain. <br /> Sediment Control <br /> To control sediment and erosion, features such as ORDs, small berms, small terraces, <br /> straw waddles, will be used either individually or in combination. Each area of the pit <br /> that is reclaimed will use one or more of the mentioned features designed specifically <br /> for that area. For more information see Hare(2001) and Sponholtz(2010). <br /> Map D-3 shows areas that might use sediment and erosion control features during the <br /> final reclaim. <br /> D9 <br />
