Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative
Lake County Community Planning&Development would like to communicate some identified county concerns
regarding the proposed permit conversation to introduce a cyanide leach recovery process, add additional
boundary area and consider the filtered tailings storage facility. We recognize some of the items will be specific
to our local review but are hopeful for guidance on how the current permitting process may take them into
account.
We would like to better understand how the DRMS application review process may place emphasis on
considering state and local investment and remediation in California Gulch through the Natural Resource
Damages Program. Does this affect how the activities proposed in and around the California Gulch superfund
site are considered?
A great concern both for Lake County as well as downstream communities is the proximity of the Mill to the
Arkansas River. How does the Division's review ensure the proposed method of containment is adequate?
If any open-air containment of material is proposed,we would like to strongly encourage consideration of
whether the existing containment meets the current BMP or should a new facility be required.
Is the applicant's catchment system adequate to ensure that none of the byproduct is in danger of open-air
exposure?
