Some highwalls are six to eight (6-8) feet above the groundwater elevation.
Approximately one thousand linear feet (1,000 LF.) of highwalls will be graded to a
3H:1 V slope. See attached map for further details.
Highwall elimination shall start approximately fifteen feet (15 ft.) back from the edge of
the pit walls. Material shall be cut and removed to achieve an overall slope of 3H:1 V. The
material cut to eliminate the highwall shall be placed directly into the pit.
A large depression is present at the northeast corner of the pit. Two hundred twenty five
cubic yards (225 CY) of stockpiled topsoil will placed in the depression to reduce the
vertical side slopes of the pit.
The Division estimates approximately three thousand cubic yards (3,000 yd3) of
material is required to be cut to eliminate the highwall to a 31-1:1 V slope or less, as directed
by the PROJECT MANAGER. If adequate material is not available from excavation to
reduce the gradient of the side slopes, topsoil from the existing adjacent stockpile will be
placed on the pit slope until a 31-1: 1V slope is achieved. Seventy five cubic yards (75
CY) of topsoil from the stockpile is required to reduce the highwalls. This task
includes transport and placement of the topsoil from the stockpile to the pit.
Please note these figures are estimates of the material that will need to be graded into
the pit. CONTRACTORS are responsible for verifying all estimates prior to bid submittal.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a
lump sum quote under Item 3.0 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum quote will cover all
costs for this task including equipment, maintenance, supplies and operator costs.
Payment shall be made as this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT
MANAGER.
TASK 4.0 GRADE PIT FLOOR AND APPLY TOPSOIL
The eastern portion of the pit floor contains piles of cobble and rock and is devoid of
vegetation. Approximately 0.33 acres of pit floor will be graded and four to five inches (4
in. to 5 in.) of topsoil will be distributed evenly over the barren area. Compacted areas will
be ripped prior to seeding. See attached map for further details. Two hundred cubic
yards (200 CY) of stockpiled topsoil is required for this task.
This task includes transport and placement of the topsoil from the stockpile to the pit.
Page 9of11
