COLORADO
oDivision of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
DATE: June 23rd 2023
TO: Interested Contractors
FROM: Julie Annear, Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
RE: Hanna Bond Forfeiture Project- Permit M-2004-045, Discretionary
Purchase
Enclosed is a brief description and bid schedule for the Hanna Bond Forfeiture Project.
The permit for the pit was revoked and the financial warranty was forfeited. The Division
of Reclamation, Mining and Safety will reclaim the site using the forfeited bond money in
accordance with the approved reclamation plan.
PROJECT LOCATION
The site is located within the River Acres Subdivision in Rio Grande County approximately
five miles east of the town of South Fork. The site is presently owned by the River Acres
Subdivision Homeowners Association. The subdivision is accessed by County Road 15.
WORK SUMMARY
The Hanna Pit encompasses approximately 3.25 acres of land that was disturbed during
a gravel mining operation. Presently, the pond floor is mostly revegetated with willow and
cottonwoods. In the spring, groundwater pools in the southeast portion of the pit. Two
topsoil stockpiles containing total of approximately 4,000 cubic yards of material are
present on-site. Five hundred cubic yards of topsoil will be used to reclaim the pit. The
landowner will dispose of the remaining topsoil.
The reclamation plan calls for the side slopes of the pit to be graded to a 3H:1 V slope.
Approximately half of the side slopes around the perimeter of the pit are almost vertical
and 6 to 8 feet high. The reclamation work will involve: 1) re-grading the pit walls to a
3H:1 V slope (1,000 LF), 2) Grading and applying four to five inches of topsoil on a portion
of the pit floor (0.33 Acres). A total of 500 CY of topsoil will be transported from the
stockpile and placed on the pit floor and side slopes.
3) Seeding the graded side slopes of the pit and portions of the pit floor (1.5 Acre).
BID SUBMITTAL DATE
