Pre-Job and Site Safety Briefings-Prior to the start of operations at the site, the PM and <br /> the SSO will conduct a pre job, site safety briefing, for all personnel involved in site <br /> operations which will include discussions of: <br /> 11 <br /> - Contents of this SHEAP; <br /> - Scope of work to be performed; <br /> - Types of hazards at the site and means for minimizing exposure to them; <br /> - Communications and coordination with other contractors; <br /> - Action levels for upgrade and downgrade of personal protective equipment; <br /> -Personal protective equipment that will be used; <br /> - Heat stress monitoring and control; <br /> - Site control measures, and safe operating practices; <br /> - Provisions for housekeeping and final cleanup; <br /> - Emergency response procedures; <br /> - Location and use of emergency equipment <br /> - Site communication and evacuation signals and procedures; <br /> Subsequent site safety briefings will be conducted by the SSO prior to each shift to <br /> review pertinent safety issues, discuss any problem and discuss aspects of the shift's <br /> tasks. <br /> 5.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> General <br /> Personal protective equipment (PPE) shields or isolates the worker with protection <br /> against dermal contact, ingestion and/or inhalation of hazardous chemicals, volatile <br /> organics and metals and The careful selection and use of PPE will protect the respiratory <br /> system, skin, eyes, face, hands, feet, head, ears and body. <br /> Minimum PPE required in all work areas includes hard hat, safety glasses, safety vests <br /> and substantial footwear. Safety glasses, protective eyewear and face shields will <br /> conform to ANSI Standard Z87.1-1989. Hearing protection will conform to ANSI <br /> Standard S3.19-1974. <br /> Levels of Protection <br /> McCollum's Excavating will provide employees with PPE that will protect from the <br /> hazards and potential hazards likely to be encountered during site operations. PPE <br /> selection is based on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the PPE relative <br /> to the requirements and limitations of the site, the task specific conditions and duration, <br /> and the hazards and potential hazards identified at the site.
