All portals are currently
closed and locked but will be modified to allow bat access and prevent unauthorized access by
the public. Existing locks will be removed and relocked with locks provided by the Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety. At all portals any pipes, water lines, etc. leading in or out of
the portal are to be removed. The materials cost for modifying the closures shall be included in
the bid price for Task 3.0.
Mill Level Closure: The mill level adit is currently closed with an approximately two (2") inch bar
stock gate fitted with an external frame, and locked with a chain and padlock. Spaces between
the gate frame and the walls on either side of the adit currently allow for unauthorized access.
Modified specifications from the IMRP General Bid Specifications, 2009 Section thirteen,
Standard Drawing six will be used to incorporate the designs of the adit door closure and the bat
closure bar stock crossbar alternative with improved DRMS safety requirements. Using number
six (#6) rebar 1/4" anchored eight inches (8") minimum into competent rock and welded to the
existing gate frame from the adit floor to the ceiling with six inch (6") on-center spacing. Grating
measuring one and one quarter inches by one sixteenth inch (1 '/4"X 1/16") will be cut to fit
between the existing frame and the competent rock perimeter of the opening, tack welded every
other bearing bar to grate frame inside, allowing no access. The bar stock crossbar alternative
bat closure has been modified by DRMS for improved safety (Figure 1). Using the existing door,
vertical spacers from the bottom of the door to a height of thirty six inches (36") will be installed
so no opening below thirty six inches (36") will have openings larger than 6" X 12". Above 36"
the specifications from the IMRP General Bid Specifications 2009, Section thirteen, Standard
Drawing six will be used. Existing private lock will be removed by CONTRACTOR and lockbox
from bar stock crossbar alternative specifications from IMRP General Bid Specifications 2009,
Section thirteen (13), Standard Drawing six (6) will be installed and locked with DRMS supplied
locks.
Gold Run Level Closure: The gold run level adit is currently closed with two (2) center opening
1/8" steel sheet doors and locked with padlock. The steel plating does not allow bat access.
Modified specifications from the bat closure bar stock crossbar alternative IMRP General Bid
Specifications 2009 Section thirteen, Standard Drawing six will be retrofit into the existing doors.
Existing doors will have a centered twenty four inch wide by fifty nine inch (24" X 59") opening
cut allowing for doors to swing with existing rail lines in place. Using two (2") pipe stock, support
frames and the bat grates will be installed in both doors with improved DRMS safety
modifications with vertical spacers installed on the bottom thirty six inch (36") of the gate to
allow no opening to exceed six by twelve inches (6" X 12"). Existing locks will be removed by
contractor and doors will be fit with modified lock box centered on doors and DRMS supplied
locks to lock doors together. Mine carts currently on rail line will be pushed into adit prior to final
closure.
9
