Item 6, k states that drill holes are expected to penetrate into a single unconfined aquifer.
Please provide more information, supported by hydrologic documentation, as to which holes are
expected to encounter the unconfined aquifer, at what depth and what measures will be taken
to prevent impacts to the prevailing hydrologic balance pursuant to Rule 3.1.6(1).
The specific hydrologic conditions existing at each drill site are unknown due to the limited
availability of hydrologic data at the site. The limited available hydrologic information suggests
the project area is underlain by an unconfined aquifer. All,none,or some of the drill holes may
encounter an aquifer, but as the aquifer depth is currently unknown, predictions as to which holes
might encounter it cannot be made. The aquifer depth and characteristics will become more
apparent as drill holes are completed.
The drilling operations will not use any fluids other than air, water, and bentonite-based drilling
fluid additives to achieve proper fluid viscosity.Additives products will be selected from the list
of Approved Drilling Fluid additives shown on the Colorado Division of Water Resources
website.
The drilling operations will maintain compliance with applicable Colorado water laws and
regulations pertaining to Prospecting Drill Holes. The holes will be properly abandoned
following the guidance of section 5.4.2 of the Mineral Rules and Regulations regarding
prospecting drill holes.
5. Item 6, a states that three or four of the exploration holes will be converted into Groundwater
Monitoring Wells. Please identify which holes are to be converted to Groundwater Monitoring
Wells. Also, in accordance with Rule 5.4.4, the necessary permits from the State Engineers Office
(Division of Water Resources)must be obtained. Please provide documentation ofpermitting
3
