MINE SITE INSPECTION NARRATIVE
COMPANY: Trapper Mining, Inc. (TMI)
MINE: Trapper Mine
PERMIT NO: C-1981-010
DATE OF INSPECTION: October 11, 2023
WEATHER: Mostly cloudy with occasional rain.
Company Officials (i.e. operator’s representative): Graham Roberts
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) Personnel: Robin Reilly and Hunter
Ridley
OSMRE Officials: Dan MacKinnon (badge #554) and Haley Hampstead
Overview
This inspection focused on the areas within the East Flintrock, Flintrock, and Lancaster Pits
under consideration for Phase II bond release described in the operator’s SL-24 bond release
application. All parcels have previously been granted Phase I release. Minor issues with
erosional rilling and weeds were discussed but did not raise any significant concerns on the
approximately 298.3 acres that were inspected.
The group also toured the Juniper Pit where DRMS issued a Cessation Order (CO-2023-001) and
Notice of Violation (CV-2023-001) in June of 2023.
Inspection
All four parcels within the application (F-B-19, L-AB-18, L-AB-19, and Z-A-17) were part of
the field review. The parcels were topsoiled and seeded between 2017-2020 and received Phase I
bond release as part of Trapper’s SL-21 bond release application.
We walked throughout each parcel and observed the following:
• overall stability of all parcels;
• diverse desired vegetation (e.g. wild rye (Figure 1), yarrow, rabbitbrush (Figure 2), Lewis
flax, sagebrush, penstemon, clover, cicer milk vetch (Figure 3), rose);
• a few populations of weeds including white top, cheatgrass, thistle, and Dalmatian
toadflax (Figure 4); and
• a few rills requiring repair (Figure 5).
