Red Creek Quarry Baseline Water Investigation Section 4

4-4
DRAFT for review purposes only. Use of contents on this sheet is subject to the limitations specified at the end of this document.
4.3 Surface Water Sampling Methods
Surface water sampling locations were selected based on the observations made during the field
reconnaissance. The objective of the surface water sampling locations was to collect one sample
upstream (SW RC1) of the seep and flume location and one sample downstream (SW RC2) of the
flume within a flowing section of Red Creek. During the initial water quality sampling event, a sample
from the Stilling Well was collected and labeled (SW SEEP) and water from the seep was collected
and labeled (SW RC1) to represent the water quality above the flume. Water collected from the
Stilling Well likely is not representative of the water quality of the flowing stream as the Stilling Well
is completed five feet below the surface of the creek bed. A more appropriate location for collecting
an upstream water quality sample from Red Creek was established after the initial sampling event.
Surface water samples were collected as direct grabs from Red Creek (Photo 4-4) and a surface
water seep at locations shown on (Figure 3-4). Unpreserved bottles were used to fill preserved
bottles and field filtered bottles to prevent overfilling the bottles.

Photo 4-4.
