PMY
5.3 Naming Convention
For the Vista Del Rio Subdivision project, (VDR),composite sampling will be employed using a 5-point sampling
methodology. The protocols include the collection of 5 separate individual aliquot samples from a decision
unit area. These aliquot samples will be named as follows:
• Project Indicator: VDR= Visa Del Rio Subdivision
• Sample Type: SS = Soil; BD = Blind Duplicate; RB = Rinse Water Blank
• Sample Location/Sequence: Lot(L) or Common (C) area#/DU =the defined lot or common area number
and sequential DU (e.g., L I D02 or C I D35); ##= Sequential number of specific QA/QC type (e.g., BDO 1)
• Sample Depth: 0 to 6 inches, 6 to 12 inches, 12 to 18 inches, or 18 to 24 inches (e.g., 06 = 0 to 6 inches,
12 = 6 to 12 inches, 18 = 12 to 18 inches, and 24 = 18 to 24 inches)
• Sample Date:YYYYMMDD
• Aliquot sample in sequence (I through 5)
For example, an aliquot sample collected on July 1, 2022 from DU36 on Lot 5 at 6 to 12 inches below ground
surface for aliquot sample 2 of 5 will be labeled as VDR-SS-L5-D36-1 2-2022070 1-2.An aliquot sample collected
on this same date from common area 2, DUOT from 18 to 24 inches below ground surface for aliquot sample
5 of 5 will be labeled as VDR-SS-C2-DO7-24-20220701-5.A BD sample collected from Lot 2, DU04,from 6 to
12 inches belowground surface for aliquot sample I out of 5 would be documented as such in the field logbook,
then labeled as VDR-BDO 1-20220701.
The individual aliquot sample jars from the same sampling location/depth will be placed into a gallon size
zip lock TM type plastic bag and placed on-ice inside an insulated cooler. Each decision unit will have four
separate plastic bags with aliquot samples from the four depth intervals. The bags will be labeled with
VDR, the DU number, sampling depth and date. For example, the 5-point composite sample bag collected
from DU34 at 6 to 12 inches would be labeled VDR-DU34-12-20220701. A blind duplicate sample,
collected in the same manner and at the same time as the primary sample, would be labeled as VDR-
BD01 C-20220701, where the C signifies this is the BD01 composite sample. Identification for the primary
sample is documented in the field notebook.
The chilled plastic bags will be delivered to the project laboratory under chain of custody documentation
where the aliquot samples will be mixed, composited, and split into the appropriate samples for analysis.
5.4 Analytical Results
The analytical results from the field blanks and equipment blanks should be evaluated for contaminants and
compared to the analytical results of the field samples. If detectable levels of analytes are identified in the field
QA/QC samples, the field samples may have been impacted by analytes from sampling equipment, sampling
technique, or sampling transportation that are not present in the environment. Anomalies must be discussed
in the report.
Field Sampling QA/QC
December 23, 2022
