Depending on the
concentrations and types of contaminants, wastes can be classified as hazardous wastes or non-hazardous
wastes. The following information is presented in this SOP.
Section 2.0— Procedure—Waste Soil
Section 3.0— Procedure— Purge Water
Section 4.0— Procedure— Decontamination Water
Section 5.0— Disposal Options
2.0 Procedure - Waste Soil
The handling and staging of soil cuttings generated during drilling or test pit excavation activities must be
decided prior to field activities. The options are dependent on the anticipated contaminants at the site, the
ability to screen for these contaminants in the field, and the nature of the site itself.
2.1 Evaluation
Evaluate the necessity for containerizing soil cuttings using the following criteria:
a) What are the potential contaminants?
b) Has the extent of contamination already been defined (i.e.,are we putting in point of compliance wells
outside the area of contamination?)
IDW and Waste Materials Handling
December 23, 2022
Page I of 7
