3.0 RESULTS
Table 1 and Charts 1 and 2 contain summary data regarding ground cover for the 2022 Phase II bond
evaluation area and applicable reference areas. Appendix A contains the raw data for all sampled areas,
while Appendix B contains the sampling methodology. Appendix C contains representative photographs of
field conditions on all sampled areas in 2022.
3.1 Phase II Bond Release Block Summary
A total of 46 plant species were observed within the Phase II bond release area evaluated in 2022.
These consisted of 19 grass taxa, 25 forbs, and 2 shrubs (Table 1). Among these species two noxious
weeds, bull thistle (Cirsium vu/gare) or cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum), were observed.
Ground cover in the Phase II bond release area consisted of an average of 49.1% live vegetation,
1.5% rock, 22.6% litter, and bare soil exposure of 26.8% (Table 1 and Chart 1). Perennial cover across
the unit averaged 28.7% with annual and biennial cover averaging 14.7%. Cheatgrass cover averaged
5.7%while other noxious species cover averaged less than 0.5%(Table 1 and Chart 1). Allowable perennial
herbaceous cover across the unit averaged 28.3% (Table 1). Dominant taxa were thickspike wheatgrass
(Agrooyron dasystachyum), Japanese brome (bromus jaoonicus), and Western wheatgrass (Agropyron
smith/i) with 10.6%, 7.5%, and 5.8% average cover, respectively (Appendix A,Table 1).
9
