• existed prior to the mining operation, locations were not determined by Trapper Mine, but rather by local
people familiar with the area and the terrain. Generally, these roads take advantage of the topography
and the more stable slopes and are located out of drainage channels except where crossings are
necessary. This is also true of any light -use roads constructed by Trapper Mine. All light use roads in
service at Trapper Mine will be maintained sufficiently to minimize erosion.
All constructed light -use roads are field designed. Most are only 10-12 feet in width and serve single
lane traffic. The overall grades do not exceed ten percent, and pitch grades exceeding twenty percent
shall be no longer than 300 feet within any consecutive 1,000 feet. While cuts and fills may
occasionally be required on light -use roads, there are currently no light -use roads with cuts or fills. Any
future light -use roads with cut or fill sections will be identified. Light -use roads meander so as to avoid
natural obstructions and to take advantage of the topography thus largely eliminating the need for cuts
or fills. Compaction of any required embankments is limited to that necessary to insure the integrity of
the road. For any light -use roads constructed by Trapper Mining Inc., topsoil will be removed where
cuts or fills will occur. Vegetation is cleared only for the width required by the road itself.
The locations of light -use roads within the proposed permit area are shown on Map M-52 (Hydrology
Monitoring Sites). Pre-existing light use roads used for access to remote areas of the permit area on an
infrequent basis, primarily to access surface and ground water monitoring locations, are designated
separately from light use roads constructed by Trapper.
n
U
0 3-176 MAY 13 1998
