Limited-Results Cultural Resource Survey Form <br />(page 2 of 3) <br />III. <br />PROJECT LOCATION <br />14. Description: The project areas are located near the town of Craig, in Moffat County, Colorado. <br />The portion on Private land (Figure 1) is 6.5 miles south-south east of Craig, and the portion on <br />State Land (Figure 2) is 6.0 miles southwest of Craig. <br />15. Legal Location <br />Principal Meridian: 6th X NM Ute <br />Quad. Map: Castor Gulch Date(s): 1980 <br />Township: 5N Range: 90W Sec.: 4 NWNW, SWNW, and 5 NENE, SENE <br />Township: 6N Range: 90W Sec.: 32 SENE, NWSE, NESE, SESE <br />Township: 6N Range: 90W Sec.: 33 SWNW, NWSW, SWSW <br />Township: 6N Range: 91W Sec.: 28 SESE, SWSE, SESW and 33 NWNE, NENW <br />16. Total number of acres surveyed: 103 (79.37 Private / 24.91 State) <br />17. Comments: <br /> IV. ENVIRONMENT <br />18. General Topographic Setting: Figure 1, ridge top with steep surrounding terrain, Figure 2, valley <br />bottomlands. <br />Current Land Use: Recreation (hunting). <br />19. Flora:Figure 1: Elevation is 6960 to 7490', Transitional Zone grasses and thick oakbrush; Figure 2: <br />Elevation 6360 to 6480 sagebrush and grasses. <br />20. Soils/Geology: Figure 1: Three types of soil are predominate within the study area: Lamphier fine <br />sandy loam, 3 to 25 percent slopes (43.3%), Foidel loam, cool, 3 to 25 percent slopes (25.3%) and <br />Winevada- Splitro complex, 3 to 25 percent slopes (22.5%). Figure 2: Soils consist of primarily of <br />Evanot loam, 1 to 12 percent slopes. Lesser amounts of Evanot loam, 12 to 25 percent slopes and <br />Moyerson- Rentsac complex (silty clay loams), 15 to 45 percent slopes are also present. (USDA <br />NRCS website accessed 4/27/2023). Geologically, Figures 1 and 2 are underlain by Cretaceous age <br />sandstone and shales of the Williams Fork Formation (Kw) . <br />21. Ground Visibility: Figure 1: 10% due to heavy grass cover and oakbrush; Figure 2: 15% due to <br />heavy grass cover (Plates 1 and 2). <br />22. Comments: Heavy vegetation and previous surface disturbance (brush clearance on the ridge in <br />Fig. 1, and historic wheat fields in Fig. 2) limited the inventory in nearly all areas. <br /> V.
