LONDON MINE
M-2023-015
Exhibit B—Rule 6.3.2
Site Description
The proposed permit area consists of two areas approximately 2000 feet apart. One currently contains
the pre-existing mine waste rock that will be sorted and processed, and the other will be where the
waste rock will be moved for processing and temporary stockpiling. The current waste rock area is
designated as the South London Stockpile area, and the other area where the sorting and processing will
occur is the Central Extension and Sorting Plant area.
Both of these site areas(as well as much of the surrounding lands) contain pre-law and pre-existing
mine-related disturbance. This includes waste rock, low grade ore, mining structures, water
impoundments, and roads.
Existing county/forest roads will be utilized for this operation, both on the site areas and between the
site areas. No roads will be significantly improved, therefore no roads are included in the permit area
acreage.
The affected land is on dry south-facing slopes; both sites have been completely disturbed by prior
mining activity, and there is no salvaged topsoil and no existing vegetation. Undisturbed surrounding
land contains typical alpine tundra vegetation, with a few stands of timberline conifers and areas of
talus.
The permit sites lie between 11,300 feet and 12,100 feet in elevation. Both site areas are gently sloping;
the upper area is steeper and the lower area contains gentler slopes and level pads for working areas
and drainage control. Existing disturbance on the upper South London Stockpile area is limited to old
waste rock. Existing disturbance and structures on the Central Extension and Sorting Plant area includes
waste rock fills, drainage controls and impoundments, concrete pads and foundations, steel buildings for
equipment and storage, overhead electric lines, and assorted metal and wood items.
Mosquito Creek is a perennial creek, located a short distance below(south of)the Sorting Plant area.
Onsite drainage controls will be part of the site activities to prevent offsite adverse impacts to Mosquito
Creek.
Please see the Exhibit E maps showing the locations of these features.
The Wildlife Statement from the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife has been requested and will be
submitted upon receipt.
