Vegetation
Vegetation on site is typical rangeland grasses for this area. Native vegetation would include
blue grama, western wheat grass, side oat grama, cactus, and sagebrush. The site is currently
vegetated at approximately 75%but can vary widely and is dependent upon annual precipitation.
Dryer years will reduce this estimate, while wet years will increase successful vegetation onsite.
2. Wildlife
Environmental conditions for wildlife are difficult due to the dry climate. Small animals such as
rabbits and coyotes can make use of the surrounding environment. The site is within range for
white tail deer, antelope, prairie dogs, various snakes and lizards, and ring-necked pheasant.
Impacts to wildlife will be mitigated through a weed management plan and reseeding all mined
areas with a diverse, native rangeland seed mix. Additionally, the site will only be disturbed for
the duration of the CDOT project and then reclamation activities will begin. The site will also
encompass only 9.9 acres, and as such will be less impactful to area wildlife.
3. Structures
There is a CenturyLink telephone line on the north side of Highway 96,a Lumen fiber optic line
on the south side of Highway 96, a Southeast Colorado Power Association electric line that runs
through the property and the fence owned by the landowner. All structures listed are inside or
within 200' of the permit boundary.
