PROJECT WORK DESCRIPTION
Al Introduction
The area of mining-related disturbance at this site is approximately 17
acres. Coal was accessed at the New Pryor Strip-Pit mine by successive
removal and segregation of overlying topsoil , subsoil , and overburden.
This material remains on the site. Also located on the site are historic
coal spoil piles. Backfilling of the strip-pits will start with historic
coal spoil . When all of this material has been used, overburden and
subsoil material placement and grading will follow to complete
backfilling. Topsoil will then be used to bring the property to final
design grade.
A centrally located long pit and a joined pit/highwall complex in the
southern portion of the property require backfilling (see site map) .
Approximately 8.3 acres of ground have been disturbed in the development
of these pits. The northern end of the project area contains stockpiled
overburden, subsoil , and topsoil which was stripped prior to pit
development and coal spoil from historic mining operations. Stockpiles
and coal spoil piles occupy approximately 8.7 acres on site. The current
relief in elevation of the site is 60 feet. Pre-mining topography slopes
at a moderately shallow angle to the east and northeast. The maximum
anticipated haul distance is approximately 1500 feet from the northern
stockpile areas to the strip-pit zone in the southern portion of the
property.
Topographic maps, aerial photographs, and other related information is
available to Bidders for inspection at the offices of State of Colorado
Department of Natural Resources, 1313 Sherman St. , Rm. 715. Denver,
Colorado. Bidders must arrange an appointment to inspect these materials
by calling the PROJECT MANAGER. Randy Streufert at: (303) 866-2611 .
Volumes of strip-pits and stockpiles stated in this bid document have
been calculated by average end method using 50 feet centers and have been
correlated with existing documentation from the strip-pit mining
operation. Stated volumes are believed to be accurate: however bidders
are encouraged to perform their own volume calculations.
81 Project Work Description
The following tasks will be performed on this project:
Task 1 : Mobilization and demobilization
Task 2: Coal spoil removal and placement
Task 3: Overburden removal , placement and grading
Task 4: Sediment pond improvement
Task 5: Topsoil removal and placement
Task 6: Revegetation
Task 7: Equipment rental
-4-
