Colorado Division • <br /> of Reclamation, roj ect Summary <br /> inin. .& Safety <br /> Enterprise Mine Bond Forfeiture Project <br /> Gunnison County, Colorado - 2009 <br /> Enterprise Mine PKA-9-608 vka <br /> Project Location & Background <br /> The Enterprise Mine Bond Forfeiture Project is located in the <br /> Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area of the Gunnison National <br /> Forest,near Taylor Park,Gunnison County Colorado. The <br /> Enterprise Mine was an underground gold and silver mining <br /> operation that was operated both as a historic mine, beginning in <br /> 1899,and more recently as a mine permitted by the State of <br /> Colorado. The Enterprise Mine is situated between the elevations <br /> of 11,700' and 12,700' and consists of three(3) mine entry areas, <br /> a large waste pile located at the lower entry, and approximately <br /> three(3)miles of access road leading to the mine. <br /> The Purpose of this project was to reclaim as much of the man- Enterprise Mine Site from the Taylor Park Ranger station, <br /> made site disturbance as possible given the project funding Gunnison County,Colorado <br /> limitations. Reclamation work was geared toward minimizing site ; ; >���; <br /> erosion and resultant sedimentation caused by the construction of ' <br /> mining related facilities. <br /> The Project work consisted of safeguarding two(2)open mine <br /> entries,removal of an abandoned aluminum travel trailer and other <br /> metallic debris from a historic site,construction of a French drain • . } • <br /> and backfilling and grading of a large open cut at the lower entry, <br /> reclamation of the three(3)miles of mine access roads,and <br /> revegetation of approximately seven(7)acres of disturbed land. <br /> qb <br /> Construction Summary ;. <br /> Due to the project site being located in the Collegiate Peaks " ' <br /> Wilderness,a designated non-motorized area,the Grand Mesa, Middle entry before and after safeguarding. <br /> Uncompahgre,and Gunnison (GMUG)National Forest only Metal steel sets were removed prior to backfilling feature. <br /> authorized a thirty-day window to complete the scheduled work. <br /> This time period was to begin after Labor Day and conclude Land Owner: <br /> USFS—Grand Mesa,Uncompahgre,Gunnison National Forest <br /> before the first elk rifle season.
