The Enterprise Mine was an underground gold and silver mining operation
that operated both as a historic mine, beginning in 1899, and more recently as a mine permitted by the State of Colorado.
Reclamation activities to satisfy the requirements of the bond were completed by Colorado Inactive Mine Program in 2009.
The maintenance performed in 2010 was completed at the request of the USFS to address additional road reclamation,
rate removal and barrier construction, site erosion, and supplemental seeding.
Permit Information
Permit Number: Operator Name: Mine Name:
M-1983-068 Maurine M. Carpenter Enterprise Mine
Type of Mine— 110 U/G Commodity Mined—Au, Ag
PRE-RECLAMATION SITE CONDITIONS:
The bond forfeiture reclamation work completed during 2009 consisted of safeguarding two (2) open mine entries, removal
of an abandoned aluminum travel trailer and other debris from a historic site, construction of a French drain and the
backfilling and grading of a large open cut at the lower entry, reclamation of three (3) miles of mine access roads, and the
revegetation of approximately seven (7) acres of disturbed land.
BIDDING/CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION:
Type of Bid: (x) Documented Quote
( ) Formal Bid as the: Enterprise Maintenance Project, PKA-11-1192
PO Number: Contractor Name&Address: Construction Dates Bond Amount
OE-PKA-11000000011 $N/A
K&P Property Designs Start: August 24, 2010 (No bond money remained after
236 South 3rd, #219 completing reclamation work in
Montrose, CO 81401 2009)
PO Date: End: September 3, 2010 Project Cost
August 6, 2010 $ 41,798.52
(Includes$185.52 for seed costs &
$1,783.00 for interpretive sign)
Construction Work Description:
Maintenance activities completed during the summer of 2010 included the removal of an access gate at the boundary of the
Wilderness Area and the construction of a boulder barrier in its place; reclamation of an additional access road,
approximately one-tenth (0.1) of a mile in length; hand work to repair soil erosion along the three (3) mile access road and at
the lower mine entry; supplemental seeding to enhance vegetation in areas of marginal growth; construction of a trail within
the footprint of the reclaimed access road to facilitate foot access into the Wilderness Area; construction of water bars along
Tellurium Creek Road to mitigate erosion and sediment transport.
A large component of the project work was located within the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness, a designated non-motorized
area. In 2009 the USFS granted a thirty (30) day window to use motorized equipment to complete the planned reclamation
This was not the case for the Enterprise Maintenance Project in 2010, and the work occurring within the Wilderness
boundary required a sizable effort from crews using hand tools and pack animals to complete.
The Notice to Proceed was issued on Monday, August 23rd and construction work began on August 24th with the removal of
the Wilderness gate and construction of a boulder barrier in its place. An additional access road, approximately one-tenth
(0.1) of a mile in length, was then reclaimed by intensive surface roughening—a method which employs an excavator to dig
gouges, approximately eighteen inches (18") in depth by twenty-four inches (24") in width, in an alternating pattern along the
entire length of the road.
As of 05/14/09
