January 26, 2023 C-1981-018/Deserado Mine CCW <br /> Access to the remaining ponds at the mine site was limited due to the deep snow cover at the time of the <br /> inspection. <br /> Ditches throughout the mine site were buried underneath snow. There were no indications of erosional problems <br /> or runoff escaping from the channels. <br /> PROCESSING WASTE/COAL MINE WASTE PILES—Rule 4.10 and 4.11 <br /> Drainage Control; Surface Stabilization; Placement: <br /> During the inspection, refuse material was being trucked to the RP-2/3/4 refuse pile. Refuse material was <br /> being placed in windrows on top of the pile to allow the material to dry(Photo 4). The slopes of the refuse pile <br /> were covered with snow. There were no erosional features observed. The slopes had no indications of instability. <br /> The RP-A and RP-5a refuse piles were inactive during the inspection. The piles were covered with snow. There <br /> were no signs of erosional concerns or instability. <br /> ROADS—Rule 4.03 <br /> Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3),Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4), Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and <br /> (6)/4.03.2(5) and(6), Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7): <br /> The Haul Road was plowed and mostly dry at the time of the inspection. Only the areas east of County <br /> Road 65 (CR 65)were icy. The road was stable with no erosional features. <br /> CR 65 was dry on the paved portion extending from the southern permit boundary to the intersection with the Haul <br /> Road. The northern portion of CR 65 was plowed but covered with snow. Portions of the northern part of CR 65 <br /> have been undermined in the past. There were no indications of settling or damage to CR 65. <br /> SUPPORT FACILITIES -Rule 4.04: <br /> Support facilities inspected included;the main facilities are/portals,the B Seam Vent Shaft No. 1, RDH-2, <br /> Slot Storage,the Nitrogen plant No. 2,the DW-1R dewatering system(Photo 5),the conveyor corridor and <br /> transfer buildings,the radio tower,the West Mains Vent Shaft, and the Water Storage Tanks. Support facilities <br /> that were inspected had snow removed from the pads to allow access. The pads were stable with no erosion <br /> observed. Pads with cut slopes were stable with no erosional concerns. <br /> DOCUMENTS RECEIVED: The Division was given a hard copy of the Deserado Mine's 2022 Annual <br /> Hydrology Report during the inspection.
