January 23, 2023 C-1981-035/King Coal Mine LJW
Two and Three.
Also located at the King II Facility is the bulk fuel and oils storage area. The area was observed to be in good
condition and no evidence of leaks or spills were evident. All secondary containment structures are clean and in
serviceable condition and all miscellaneous oils and hazardous materials are neat,well-kept and clearly labeled.
The storage area can be seen in Photos Four and Five.
PROCESSING WASTE/COAL MINE WASTE PILES—Rule 4.10 and 4.11
Drainage Control; Surface Stabilization;Placement:
King I Facility
At the King I Facility the Lower Refuse Pile was observed. Refuse material was actively being hauled, deposited
and worked into the temporary stockpile of material. The temporary stockpile has grown significantly since the
Division's previous inspection. Visual estimates with the Operator Representative estimate the pile to be around
20,000 tons of material. The side slopes were stable at the time of the inspection and no evidence of settling,
slumping or erosion was observed. The temporary stockpile can be seen in Photos Six and Seven. The surface of
the refuse pile has been graded and compacted to allow runoff to be shed and prevent erosion of the pile. No
evidence of significant erosion or surface water collection was observed. The overall footprint of the Lower
Refuse Pile is in excellent condition and winter maintenance has been done well.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 5
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 3 of 7
