Cultural Resource Review and Reconnaissance Survey for the Fainneadows RV Storage and Gravel Mining Pit
Project, Greeley, Weld County, Colorado
-z
■ y:
VtMg;t
E.
z rflS sr ;Sr j t,y
kl
' !s r., `k
° r..
Figure 22. 5WL9412, Feature 6 (concrete building foundation) at center, with Feature
5 (worker's cottage) at far left, and site 5WL9411 at in the center background, view to
the southwest.
5WL9413 — 1539 East 8th Street
SWCA newly recorded 5WL9413,a historic farmstead at 1539 East 8th Street, consisting of a house
(Feature 1),garage/shed outbuilding(Feature 2),outhouse(Feature 3),and well/pumphouse(Feature 4)
(Figure 23).The buildings at 1539 East 8th Street are outside the planned mining permit area and are not
planned for demolition as part of the gravel mining operations. However, according to the current owner,
the viability of the house was challenged by a storm and treefall onto its roof sometime between 2019 and
2021;the former owner had been refurbishing the house for occupation until a treefall and resulting water
damage destroyed that effort. It is apparent that roofing tiles were replaced between 2016 and 2017 based
on aerial imagery available from Google Earth(2022).As can be seen in the aerial imagery, four to five
dead trees stand around the house in July 2019,and in June 2021,aerial imagery shows these trees have
been removed. The building stands derelict.
22
