Site 5WL9412, Feature 5 (worker's cottage) south corner,with Feature 4
(Quonset hut) on left, view to the north.
Feature 5 is a small worker's cottage located south and across the dirt driveway from the Quonset but
(Figures 21 and 22; see Figures 14, 18,and 20). It is a modular unit on a rectangular concrete footprint. It
appears to have been prefabricated at its current position to take advantage of electricity from the power
pole, located off its northeast side.Another building was previously set in parallel to the northwestern
side of the cottage;however, only a concrete foundation remains, including a covered well opening
centered near the south side and abutting the cottage. The wood-framed cottage is clad in horizontal
lapboard siding. It has an end-gabled roof and opens to the southwest through a wood doorway set in the
west side of the southwest fagade, which has a double sash wood-framed window opening beside it.
Double sash window openings are spaced along the other fagades as well;however, only one doorway
exists. The cottage is for temporary housing only, with a sitting room and gas stove at the front and a
bedroom at the rear.A single brick chimney is centered on the roof peak.A propane tank is located
behind(northeast of)the cottage.
20
