• Graders
• Excavators
• Electric control van
• Backhoes
• Asphalt plant and highway trucks
No permanent structures will be built within the mining area. All production facilities and
equipment will be portable. United Companies will provide portable toilets and bottled water to
employees on site during operations. Any fuel stored on site will have full secondary
containment that can carry 110% of the fuel tank volume. All facilities will be removed during
reclamation. Explosives will not be used or stored at the site.
4. Topsoil and Overburden Handling
Topsoil is roughly 12 inches thick atop a 15 foot deep overburden layer. Topsoil and overburden
will be stripped prior to mining using appropriate earth moving equipment. The equipment that
may be used for stripping includes front-end loaders, dozers, excavators, scrapers, and water
trucks. Topsoil and overburden will be stockpiled separately in various stockpiles throughout the
site for use in reclamation. When possible, it will be directly placed on areas being reclaimed.
Stockpiles that will be in place for longer than 90 days will be seeded with the permanent seed
mix to prevent erosion (see Exhibit E for seed mix).
Table D-2 shows the material balance based on the average topsoil and overburden
thicknesses described above. These volumes account for the estimated topsoil and overburden
stripped from all three pods. The old Camilletti area is mined out, and has been backfilled,
graded, and topsoiled. Pod 1 is nearly mined out, and thus most topsoil and overburden
stripping has been completed in that pod. The material necessary for reclamation of any existing
disturbances is already stockpiled on site.
Table D-2 Topsoil and Overburden Material Generated During Mining
Material Generated (CY)
Topsoil 222,479
Overburden 2,447,265
Stockpiled material will be used to achieve the final grading shown in the Exhibit F reclamation
maps. Overburden will be used to backfill and grade the pit slopes to their final conditions. Any
excess will be dispersed and graded across the pod floors and used to create aesthetically
pleasing reclaimed slopes. Topsoil will be used to augment the replaced topsoil on all disturbed
areas and slopes. Topsoil will be replaced in a single 12-inch lift across these areas.
5. Water Information, Rights, and Augmentation
All water rights issues such as availability of water for this operation, consumption rates, dust
control, etc. is presented in Exhibit G —Water Information.
Hayden Gravel Pit
December 2022 D-4 Lewicki 81 Associates
